Don't forget the Model Pledge Contest for 2024
May 2, 2024,
We had about 35 folks attend April's meeting. We had the usual quality of models at the meeting (see the Galleries page) The May meeting was a no-themed "Open" month, but we decided to make it a Diorama-themed month, anything big or small.
We got a handle on a possible new larger meeting venue at the Pinellas Gulf Coast Academy on Coachman close to Belcher. Ozzie, George H, Paula, and I checked it out. It is literally within walking distance from the funeral home, we will bring this up at May's meeting.
The club had a Sprues and Brews get-together at HOB in Dunedin, it was well attended. Anyone who would like to attend those meetings, see Shawn Hays and he will add you to the email list to notify you.
We are going to set up the occasional Group Builds at the Clearwater library near the Mall. Some members are asking about advanced modeling techniques, if any of you have any questions on the hobby, techniques, etc., please don't be afraid to ask those questions at the meeting, we are here to help and steer you in the right direction. While we don't have the time to do much of that at the meetings properly, we are looking into occasional alternate group sessions.
I hope the 28 members who signed up for the Model Contest Pledge Build for 2024 have those models started for October's Club Contest. We will have a judged contest properly and cash awards will be issued.
The Revised Theme awards system. The new system seemed to go well. Greg Renn won 1st place with his Avenger for 6 points, Nestor Espinoza won 2nd place for his Panther diorama for 4 points and Brian Fowler won 3rd place for his Soviet tank diorama for 2 points. Everyone else who brought in a model got one point for participating.
The way it works: Everyone who brings a model to the meeting for the Monthly Theme goes to Paula first and gets a numbered chit to place with your model. Non-theme models check in with her too so she can log in a point for bringing in a model. Everyone bringing in a model will get at least 1 point. Cosmetically nothing will change, we will still vote the same as we always have done and there will be a monthly winner but additionally, 1st place will get 6 points, 2nd will get 4 points, 3rd will get 2 points and anyone bringing a model to the meeting will get 1 point. In November the total points will be added up awarding 1st, 2nd & 3rd Cash Awards.
